On
Sunday, the banks of the Kshipra River in Ujjain, the cultural capital of the
country and the city of Mahakal, witnessed a historic moment that sends a
profound message not only to Indian politics but also to the current landscape
of society. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav solemnized the
wedding of his son, himself an MBBS/PG doctor, not through a grand event or
private ceremony, but through a mass wedding ceremony. This initiative was not
merely a family affair, but also heralded the return of simplicity and social
integrity that had been neglected in Indian politics for decades. In today's times,
wedding ceremonies have become a platform for displaying personal power,
grandeur, and economic strength. The weddings of politicians' children often
become stories of immense wealth, glitz, and extraordinary grandeur. From South
India to North India, spending crores of rupees on the weddings of politicians'
children and displaying gold and silver jewellery has become an established
tradition. In recent years, Madhya Pradesh has also witnessed such lavish and
extravagant weddings of leaders from various parties. At such a time, Chief
Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav's decision is a bold social intervention. Marrying his
son to another doctor, Dr. Ishita, in a mass wedding ceremony sends a direct
message to society that marriage is a celebration of love, connection, and
simplicity, not a burden of debt and ostentation. This initiative is a powerful
step towards curbing extravagance and fulfilling social responsibility. The
simplicity of Dr. Mohan Yadav's initiative was not limited to the wedding
ceremony itself, but was reflected in every small detail. The invitation card
cost a mere ₹12. Most importantly, despite
being the Chief Minister, Dr. Yadav did not mention his position. The card
simply read "Mohan Yadav and the Yadav family," reflecting his
principle of keeping his private and public life separate. Guests were
requested not to bring any gifts. This step counters a culture where marriage
becomes a medium for gift exchange and display. During the engagement, the
bride and groom arrived at the venue in a bullock cart instead of an expensive
or foreign car. This demonstrates his deep respect for Indian culture and rural
simplicity. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav personally arranged for the wedding
expenses and household items for all 21 couples participating in this mass
wedding ceremony. This demonstrates that this step was taken not just for his
family, but to give direction to the entire society. It is not that the Chief
Minister did this to show off. Dr. Mohan Yadav's simplicity isn't limited to
mass weddings; it's a hallmark of his personal life and political conduct. He
is a role model of true political integrity. It's well known that Chief
Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav lives alone in his official residence. His
family—wife, Mrs. Seema Yadav, son, and daughter—do not live with him in the
Chief Minister's residence. His son, who is pursuing an MS after MBBS, lives in
a hostel, while his wife lives with her family in their ancestral home in
Ujjain. Dr. Yadav has publicly stated that he wants to shield his family from the
pomp and show of the Chief Minister's position. His wife, Mrs. Seema Yadav,'s
modesty and simple demeanor reinforce this family philosophy. The Chief
Minister believes he is fortunate that his children listen to him and respect
his desire for simplicity. In today's times, when political ambitions often
draw children into politics, Dr. Mohan Yadav has kept his family away from the
trappings of politics. One of his daughters is a doctor, and the other son
pursues his ancestral farming and business. The CM has never allowed his family
members to be used for political positions or influence. Such examples of
political integrity are rare in modern Indian politics. Dr. Mohan Yadav's
lifestyle stems from his deep-rooted values as a dedicated soldier of the Rashtriya
Swayamsevak Sangh. The RSS's ideology focuses on simplicity, discipline, and
sacrifice, which Dr. Yadav embodies in his life. He belongs to the category of
leaders who do not just talk, but live their principles.Except for a few top
leaders in the Bharatiya Janata Party like Deendayal Upadhyaya, Shyama Prasad
Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the late former Prime Minister
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, such selfless simplicity is rarely seen in personal life.
This simplicity may be common in the lives of dedicated workers like RSS chief
Mohan Bhagwat, senior pracharaks like the late Shaligram Tomar, and Suresh
Soni, but such sacrifice and simplicity at the level of a Chief Minister is an
unparalleled political courage. Dr. Mohan Yadav's move also broadens the
definition of government work. The government's mandate is not merely to carry
out physical development projects like roads, electricity, and water, but also
to foster social reform. By arranging a mass wedding for his son and setting a
model of simplicity in his personal life, Dr. Yadav has proven that his
political leadership is deeply rooted in social concerns. This history created
in Ujjain will inspire all politicians in the country—from councilors to MLAs
and ministers—to break free from the glare of debt-fueled spending and steer
society in the right direction. Dr. Mohan Yadav is truly a social reformer who
has reinstated the philosophy of simple living and high thinking even while
holding the post of a Chief Minister.
