The tenure of the Dr. Mohan Yadav-led BJP government in Madhya Pradesh completes two years today. This period is not merely an administrative duration but appears to be a dynamic journey between resolve and accomplishment. The government claims that it has adopted the core mantra of 'Development and Service' and taken concrete steps toward establishing the state as the engine of India's development. It is essential to examine this claim with some facts.
Industrial Development and Job Creation: The year 2025 has been declared the 'Year of Industry and Employment'. The approval of 18 new policies has secured over ₹32 lakh crore in investment for the state, with ₹8.57 lakh crore worth of proposals materialized on the ground. Due to the 'MP Invest Portal 3.0', Madhya Pradesh has become the third state in the country to attract the highest number of investment proposals. Over 23 lakh job creation proposals were received during Investor Meets. The foundation stone was laid for the country's first PM MITRA Park in Dhar, and 26 new industrial parks/clusters were approved.
Women Empowerment: Women empowerment has been a top priority. The amount under the Ladli Behna Yojana was increased from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 per month, and women's reservation in government services was raised to 35%. The Devi Ahilya Nari Shashaktikaran Mission was launched, and 62 lakh rural sisters became self-reliant through self-help groups.
Welfare for the Poor: Under the Garib Kalyan Mission, free food grains were distributed to 1.33 crore families. In the direction of social justice, the decades-old dispute involving the Hukamchand Mill in Indore was resolved by paying crores of rupees to the affected worker families. A large number of people received ownership rights certificates through the Swamitva Yojana. Crores of beneficiaries received assistance and free food grains under the Mukhyamantri Jan Kalyan Sambal Yojana and PMGKAY.
Tribal Welfare: The budget for the tribal sector saw a 23.4% increase, with a provision of ₹40,804 crore. The remuneration for Tendu leaf collectors was raised from ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 per standard bag. Mobile Medical Units and housing were completed under the PM Janman Yojana. To strengthen cultural identity, the Pachmarhi Sanctuary was renamed after Raja Bhabhut Singh, and Jabalpur Airport was named after Veerangana Rani Durgavati. Bhagoria dance, Gond murals, and Narmada Parikrama were included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Construction of the 1,450 km long Ram Van Gaman Path will take place. A provision of ₹2,005 crore has been made for Simhastha-2028.
Farmers and Animal Husbandry: Madhya Pradesh ranks first in the country in the production of pulses, oilseeds, maize, and tomatoes. The Krishak Kalyan Mission and Dal Mission were approved. Over ₹48,000 crore was transferred to farmers' accounts under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and CM Kisan Kalyan Yojana. Over ₹2,106 crore was provided to lakhs of farmers affected by disasters. Farmers were given a bonus on the Minimum Support Price for wheat. The target is to provide 30 lakh solar pumps. In animal husbandry, the "Swavalambi Gaushala Kamdhenu Sthapna Rules-2025" were approved, and the assistance per cattle was increased from ₹20 to ₹40.
Infrastructure and Transport: The target is to increase irrigation capacity to 100 lakh hectares by 2028-29. The foundation stone was laid for the country's first river-linking project, the Ken-Betwa Link Project. In the energy sector, Madhya Pradesh is in a surplus position, with the Floating Solar Power Project starting production with 278 MW capacity in its first phase. In transport, the number of airports has increased to 8. 1 lakh kilometers of roads will be constructed over the next 5 years. An MoU for ₹1 lakh crore was signed between NHAI and Madhya Pradesh, and thousands of villages were connected by roads under the Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
Education and Health: Madhya Pradesh is the first state in the country to implement the National Education Policy-2020. 6.18 lakh children were re-enrolled in schools. Model colleges in all 55 districts are being upgraded as PM Colleges of Excellence. In health, Ayushman Arogya Mandir and Mukhyamantri Sanjeevani Clinics are operational. 84 lakh Ayushman cards were created in two years. The goal is to fill 2.5 lakh job vacancies for youth. A record ₹5,000 crore in self-employment loans was distributed to 7 lakh youth on 'Employment Day'.
Good Governance: Over 1 crore cases were resolved through the Revenue Mega Campaign. The Cyber Tehsil Project was implemented in all 55 districts. Madhya Pradesh has become the first state to conduct flawless crop survey (Giridawari). The state achieved the first rank in the country by auctioning the highest number of mineral blocks.
Law and Order: The 'e-summons' system was implemented first in the country. Anti-Naxal operations resulted in 13 Naxals killed and 10 surrendering, making the state Naxal-free now. Recruitment for 20,000 police posts will commence soon.
Challenges : Despite these successes, the government faces significant challenges that will be crucial to address in the third year. The challenge of coordinating skill development and industrial demand means aligning the state's workforce skills with the new technical demands of record industrial investment. Last-mile infrastructure expansion requires continuous monitoring and resources to ensure the quality of rural roads under schemes like the Mukhyamantri Majra-Tola Sadak Yojana and connecting every household with schemes like the Jal Jeevan Mission. Continuity in scheme implementation necessitates maintaining administrative efficiency and the pace of execution. Balancing environment and development will require balancing the auction of mineral blocks and rapid development with the conservation of Tiger Corridors and rivers.
The solution to these challenges is only possible by expanding Digital Governance and strengthening public participation and monitoring. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will need to form a special task force to deal with these challenges in his third year. To fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a Developed India by 2047, CM Dr. Mohan will have to work in a mission mode to create an 'Aatmanirbhar' Madhya Pradesh, because the path to a Developed India passes only through a Developed Madhya Pradesh.
